OVERVIEW

Quillhollow is designed to work entirely on your computer, without collecting your data. This policy describes the limited circumstances in which information is handled when you interact with Wilson Technical Arts' website or purchase a license.

Wilson Technical Arts Inc. ("Wilson Technical Arts", "we", "us") is based in Ontario, Canada, and subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation. Wilson Technical Arts does not collect or store personal data in connection with the normal use or purchase of the Software; the limited operational data we handle is described below. This policy is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada. Our End User License Agreement is available at https://quillhollow.app/terms.html.

1. WHAT WE COLLECT AND WHY

1.1 Software Operation

During normal use, Quillhollow operates entirely on your local machine. No data about you, your writing, or your activity is transmitted to Wilson Technical Arts or any third party.

1.2 Update Checks

When you manually check for a software update from within the application, a request is sent to our website that includes:

  • Your application version (e.g. 1.0.0)
  • Your operating system platform (e.g. win32)

This information is used solely to serve the correct download for your system. It is technical in nature and does not identify you personally. We do not store or log this information beyond what our hosting provider records as part of standard web server operation (see Section 1.5).

1.3 Feedback and Bug Reports

When you submit feedback or a bug report from within the application, the request includes:

  • Your application version
  • Your operating system platform
  • Your operating system version
  • Your Electron runtime version

This technical context helps us reproduce and investigate reported issues. It does not identify you personally. Any written content you include in your feedback may contain personal information at your discretion; we use that content only to address your report and do not retain it beyond what is reasonably necessary for that purpose.

1.4 License Purchase and Key Recovery

When you purchase a license for Quillhollow, you transact directly with our third-party payment processor, Paddle.com Inc. ("Paddle"). At the time of purchase, our systems receive a notification from Paddle containing your order ID (an opaque transaction identifier assigned by Paddle). We generate a random license key and store the following:

  • Your order ID (provided by Paddle)
  • Your license key (a randomly generated opaque identifier)

Neither of these values identifies you personally, and Wilson Technical Arts has no means of connecting them to any individual. We do not consider this information to be personal data. We store this mapping solely for operational purposes: to issue your license key at the time of purchase and to assist with key recovery if you lose it. We retain this order ID and license key mapping for the lifetime of the license to support ongoing key recovery. Recovery requires you to provide your order ID, which is included in the purchase confirmation sent to you by Paddle at the time of purchase.

Payment processor: Payment processing is handled entirely by Paddle. Paddle operates as a Merchant of Record, meaning the purchase transaction is between you and Paddle directly. Wilson Technical Arts does not receive or store your name, email address, credit card number, or other payment details. Paddle's privacy practices are governed by its own privacy policy at https://www.paddle.com/legal/privacy.

1.5 Web Server Logs

When your device makes any request to our website - including update checks, feedback submissions, or visiting our website directly - your IP address is recorded in standard web server logs by our hosting provider as part of normal infrastructure operation. Wilson Technical Arts does not actively collect, query, or associate your IP address with your identity, license, or purchase record. These logs are retained by our hosting provider in accordance with their standard practices and are used solely for infrastructure security and operational purposes. As an extension of these server logs, we keep a daily running tally of download counts by platform; no user information is collected or stored as part of this tally.

1.6 Cookies

The quillhollow.app website does not use tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies. We do not place any non-essential cookies on your device when you visit our website.

When you proceed to purchase a license, you will be directed to a checkout hosted by our third-party payment processor, Paddle (Paddle.com Inc.). Paddle operates as a Merchant of Record, meaning the purchase transaction is between you and Paddle directly. Paddle's checkout may set functional and analytics cookies on your device in accordance with its own cookie and privacy policies (https://www.paddle.com/legal/privacy). Wilson Technical Arts has no control over and bears no responsibility for cookies set by Paddle's checkout environment.

2. HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION

We do not sell, rent, or share information about you with third parties for marketing or commercial purposes.

We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • Hosting provider: Our website is hosted by a third-party provider, which processes web server logs as described in Section 1.5. This provider acts as a data processor on our behalf.
  • Payment processor: Purchases are processed by Paddle (Paddle.com Inc.) as Merchant of Record. Paddle's privacy policy (https://www.paddle.com/legal/privacy) governs its handling of your payment information.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, or valid legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Wilson Technical Arts, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfer: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of Wilson Technical Arts, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity, subject to the same protections described in this policy. We will provide notice of any such transfer as described in our End User License Agreement (https://quillhollow.app/terms.html).

3. DATA SECURITY

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold against unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure. Purchase records (order ID and license key) are stored securely.

If you have reason to believe your license key or order ID has been exposed or compromised, please contact us at support@quillhollow.app.

4. YOUR RIGHTS

Wilson Technical Arts does not store personal data about you in connection with your license purchase, only opaque operational identifiers (order ID and license key) that cannot be linked to you as an individual.

To the extent any personal data is incidentally processed (for example, in web server logs maintained by our hosting provider, or in written feedback you voluntarily submit), you may have the following rights depending on your jurisdiction:

  • Access: You may request information about any personal data we hold that relates to you.
  • Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Deletion: You may request that we delete personal data we hold about you.
  • Portability: You may request a copy of any personal data we hold in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Restriction: You may request that we limit how we use your personal data while a request is being resolved.
  • Objection: You may object to our processing of your personal data where that processing is based on legitimate interest.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@quillhollow.app. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law. To locate an operational record, we will ask you to provide your order ID.

If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). We would prefer to address your concerns directly first, and encourage you to contact us before filing a complaint.

If you are located in Canada, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

5. CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS

Wilson Technical Arts does not collect or sell personal information as part of the Software's normal operation, as described in Section 1. The order ID and license key we store in connection with a purchase are opaque operational identifiers that cannot be linked to an individual; we do not consider this information to be personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA / CPRA). Accordingly, Wilson Technical Arts does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and is not required to provide a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" mechanism with respect to the Software's operation. California residents who wish to exercise rights under the CCPA / CPRA may contact us at support@quillhollow.app.

6. CHILDREN

The Software is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly store any data in connection with use by children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently done so, please contact us at support@quillhollow.app.

7. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version is always published at https://quillhollow.app/privacy.html and is identified by its version number and effective date. Material changes will be communicated through an in-app notification or a notice on our website. Your continued use of the Software or our website after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy for any new interactions; your rights regarding previously collected information are not diminished by any update.
